The story
Martin Hargreaves is Chief Product Officer, Financial Services, at Quant. He leads product strategy on how distributed ledgers and blockchain-based tokens can unlock efficiencies in finance and supply chain — the industrial version of Verdian’s gateway thesis. Quant’s page calls him a fintech and payments specialist steeped in product discovery, B2B SaaS delivery, and building infrastructure architecture teams. The customer-pain-point language is not decoration: GBTD, Murex, Oracle and the Bank of England lab are product problems before they are press notes.
Before Quant he spent nearly thirteen years at Vocalink, a Mastercard company, most recently as Vice President, Product Management. He led product, strategy and architecture teams and holds two patents in payments data processing and international ACH — rails history, not Overledger claims. Several Quant biographies share that Vocalink corridor (Verdian as CISO, David Yates as former Vocalink CEO on the board). It is a people-level connection to UK payments infrastructure, not a claim that Vocalink is a Quant product.
At the IETF he is a listed author of the Secure Asset Transfer Protocol core and architecture drafts, and of the 2020 Open Digital Asset Protocol individual draft (with Thomas Hardjono) that SATP grew from. SATP is an IETF work item: two gateways, lock-assertion, then a 2-phase commit. Quant contributes authors and a co-chair; it does not own the protocol. He sits on the Digital Pound Foundation steering committee. In 2025 he published Quant’s note on programmability in payments. Quant’s page is the source for the CPO title; the datatracker is the source for the drafts.
