The story
Colin Paterson is the engineering co-founder of Quant. Independent round-ups (Kraken Learn and others) record him joining in 2017 as Chief Technology Officer, with Paolo Tasca as Chief Strategist, around the year the Overledger whitepaper was written. Quant-era team copy called him a technology innovator in information, cybersecurity and AI, drawing on health, defence, finance and utilities, ‘seeking along with the other founders of Quant to help developers unchain the full potential of ledger technologies.’ By 2022 he was no longer with the company. This page does not invent a present-day Quant title.
The primary documents are unambiguous. He is one of four authors of Quant Overledger: Whitepaper v0.1 (2018), archived on UCL Discovery with Verdian, Tasca and Mondelli — the gateway-OS argument that applications should not be trapped on a single ledger. He is a named inventor on US11842335B2 / US20200311718A1, ‘Blockchain communications and ordering,’ assigned to Quant Network Ltd: a method for keeping a chronological record of transactions that appear on different blockchains. If money is going to hop ledgers, time has to mean the same thing on both sides.
The career before Quant, as those round-ups have it, is cybersecurity: Deutsche Bank and Vocalink (the Mastercard company that acquired the UK payments infrastructure in 2017 — the same corridor as Verdian and, later, Hargreaves and Yates). That is adjacency, not a claim that Deutsche Bank or Vocalink shipped Overledger. Read the whitepaper and the patent. They are the CTO’s documentary trail.
